About Backyard Beverages

Our company was founded in Fort Worth, Texas during the mid seventies with an ice cream shop called the Back Porch. The back porch is the part of a home where homemade ice cream is often frozen and wonderful memories are formed. Our shop began with a five gallon WHITE MOUNTAIN FREEZER using salt and ice to slowly freeze our flavors. We had fun introducing flavors such as Oreo Cookie, Banana Pudding and Illegal Vanilla. With customer lines extending around the building, it soon became apparent that we could not make ice cream fast enough to meet demand. So we upgraded to a batch freezer to produce our special flavors.

A call from Six Flags over Texas gave our little company the chance to begin providing delicious lemonade to its customers. The following year, we were asked if we could freeze the lemonade, so we began to produce lemonade in a manner similar to our frozen ice cream. We first produced it in five gallon tubs and scooped it just like ice cream. This concept was well received by everyone, except those that had to scoop it. It wasn't long till we figured out that we could put it into PRE-PACKAGED CUPS which made the very tired and weary scoopers happy. Because of the urgent need to change from scooping to a pre-packaged product, the quickest solution was to convert a sour cream container for our first package. Although not designed for freezing temperatures, and it frequently cracked, it provided a generous portion and made our tired scoopers happy!

As the popularity of Lemon Chill grew through various entertainment venues, we decided to branch out and go into the retail market. An early marketing effort was to call our product the Soft Frozen Fruit Explosion. We even showed pictures of the product bursting out of the top of the cups. We were quite embarrassed when a few customers called to tell us that they were disappointed when they opened the cups on the backyard picnic table AND NOTHING HAPPENED! Literally, the idea of a fruit explosion was taken to heart and we had to change our marketing strategy. Although we sold the Lemon Chill Brand in December of 1998, we are pleased to report that some of our original LEMON CHILL PRODUCTS are still sold today throughout the United States.

However, we did not sell our love of the food business and our desire to introduce new products. We have continued to sell lemonade through innovative marketing systems. We visited our original roots and named our company Backyard Beverages, reminiscent of the location in the home where we often enjoy the wonderful sweet-tart goodness of fresh -squeezed lemonade and refreshing real brewed iced tea. Whether around a pool, near the grill, sitting at the picnic table, or just relaxing in a comfy chair with friends and family, the Backyard is a special place for us to enjoy great beverages. We believe that Backyard Beverages can help you create and be a part of these special feelings and happy times.

Like Bob Moore used to say when things got stressful; "Hey guys, It's just LEMONADE."
